Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookThe events in Namibia German South West Africa in the early 1900s are told in all of its horror I am ashamed I knew nought about this genocide of the Herero peopleThe narration is shared jointly between Jahohora a teenage girl who survives 2 years in the desert avoiding the Germans and Kov a Jewish doctor in the German invading army who has joined to prove his loyalty to his country I liked the way the two characters only come across each other twice and then only for fleeting momentsIt’s a brutal book but it’s a tale that need

Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookThis book made me so angryFirstly Jahohora 'saved' herself in the desert all those years that chance meeting with Kov was very insignificant So insignificant that it shouldn't even have been included in the bookSecondly the author worked very hard at making the reader feel sorry for Kov a Jewish German doctor serving on the German side We are made to feel sorry for him from the time he leaves Germany to go serve in Namibia with everything that he witnesses in the 'war' or like in the wiping out of the Herero he is made to seem powerless yet sympathetic towards the Herero yet he continues to move with the German soldiers healing them stands aside and watches as they dehumanize the HereroIn the end this Jewish German man wins he walks away a winner He has a son and wife waiting for him at home his life is just as it was at home when he l

Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookAlthough I initially struggled to get into this book for my personal lack of knowledge on Namibian historical facts I found it profoundly engaging and an absolute masterpiece It describes Herero and Jewish traditions in a beautiful religious parallel where the ancestors are central to the essence of these two peoples during Germany's occupation of South West Africa What the Germans did in this land is truly horrific the repeated history of brutal colonisers regardless of their nationality claiming the land for a superior race I did not know about the Herero Genocide and I must thank the author for her outstanding research enabling me and other readers hopefully to unearth this from a not so distant path I particularly commend the author for the different use of linguistic styles to show the evolution of the central Herero character Jahorora from baby girl in her village amidst the Herero tribes to woman at the service of a Christian family Kov's parallel life in Germany his

Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookAt this time when the memory of the Rwandan genocide is celebrated and when Burkina Faso where I live is being confronted for the first time in its history by ethnic violence and mass atrocities reading Mama Namibia feels awkwardly closeThe genocide of the Herero and the Nama perpetrated by the Germans was not unknown to me but this novel brought many insights It is probably one of the topics fiction is better in dealing with than non fiction I liked the way Serebrov depicted the cultural traditions and values of the proud Herero people their relation to the land the ancestors and their pacific tendencies I also did like the parallel drawn between the persecutions of Jews and the extermination of Herero This first genocide of the 20th century truly was only a repetition of the system of destruction that would be put in place in the second world warMore t

Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookI’ve read this book while travelling in Namibia I really loved the different parallels between the story of Johohora and Kov’s story and also between the Herero’s genocide and the Holocaust But most of all I really enjoyed learning about the Hereros’ way of life

Paperback✓ Mama Namibia PDF å mama pdf, namibia mobile, Mama Namibia eBookThis important story has not been told often enough the history of the Herero genocide is still but invisible in the usual narratives of history and yet it is one of the most telling stories in colonial history understanding this book reveals that white supremacy and racism is not about white people fearing black people but instead about white people being utterly convinced of their own superiority white people truly believe they are superior and have therefore a RIGHT to torture and maim others whenever they want this story needs to become much part of world history than it currently is and Serebrov had done a good job of narrating the full horror I won't be surprised if this take gives me nightmares it is overwhelming
